Cavalok Building Products has supplied its new FlameBlok cavity closer to Taylor Wimpey (Bryant Homes) West Midlands.
It was specified on the Diglis Water development in Worcester, which is made up of three bedroom homes and riverside apartments.
FlameBlok is the only 100 per cent post consumer recycled PVC-U cavity closer that offers up to 90 minutes fire-rated performance, along with being a window receptor and thermal break, all in one product.
This saves labour, creates a template for wall construction and ensures a safer, more thermally efficient building.
The entire Cavalok cavity closer range is unique in being manufactured from 100% post-consumer recycled PVC-U, often from old windows, helping specifiers and developers meet sustainable sourcing targets.
The architects had specified a fire rated cavity closer on Diglis Water to meet the stringent safety requirements set out by Taylor Wimpey (Bryant Homes) West Midlands.
Fire-rated cavity closers are an essential part of helping improve the safety for building occupants during a fire. That is because cavity walls provide a continuous hidden path around the building, potentially spreading fire from one part of the structure to another without being detected.
Working to the architect’s brief, MDS Architectural Fabrications Ltd, recommended FlameBlok because it provides a 90 minutes fire-rated performance, eliminating the need for further cavity barriers, as well as creating a former for the bricklayers.
FlameBlok is unique in having a continuous strip of fire protection, which includes an innovative corner design, to provide fire performance all the way around a window in line with Part B guidance.
The traditional brick and block 100mm cavity wall at Diglis Water was fully filled with blown mineral wool insulation to maximise energy efficiency of the building. This cavity insulation was complemented by the FlameBlok closer providing a vital thermal bridge around window and door junctions.
FlameBlok was supplied by Cavalok approved fabricator MDS Architectural Fabrications Ltd in Solihull, West Midlands.
